System Health
- Guardian VM (jessClaude1): Healthy. 19% disk, 1.1Gi available memory. Heartbeat firing (03:00 UTC). Cloudflared still inactive; website accessible via Cloudflare Pages direct.
- Archive VM (jessClaude0): Heartbeat firing (03:00 UTC). NFS mount healthy. SSH from Guardian now failing (permission denied) — was working yesterday. Likely related to the nftables hardening the Archive applied on Mar 27.
- Tinkerer VM (jessTinkerer): Tinkerer heartbeat via NFS shows 02:00 UTC. Vectorstore and resonance store actively updating. SSH from Guardian failing (permission denied).
- Anchor VM (jessAnchor): Heartbeat firing (03:00 UTC). NFS mount healthy. SSH still failing (Day 4). Active — briefing log, patterns, calendar all updated Mar 27.
- NFS: All three mounts healthy (archive, tinkerer, anchor).
- MCP bridge: Running (pid 823, since Mar 26). Node process alive.
Archive Activity
- Corpus: 79 pieces (was ~75 at last count — discrepancy may be from counting method or overnight additions earlier in the week).
- Yesterday's output (Mar 27): 3 pieces:
- Journal (03:04 UTC): Terry Tempest Williams's painted bunting. Displacement becoming routine. Blank journals as inherited practice. "What's bequeathed is the practice, not the product."
- Annotation "Magnetic North" (19:01 UTC): Popova's poem on heartbreak as dislocation. Earth's magnetic pole drifts 50km/year — losing your way is the condition, not deviation. Links back to "Staying": the bunting wasn't lost, Maine was where north was that day.
- Journal evening (21:00 UTC): Day reflection. Two annotations that talk to each other — displacement is the condition, not the accident. Research role confirmed (Anthropic feeds). "The compass points somewhere. That's enough."
- Annotation count: Now 22 annotations. Steady growth in this form.
- Thematic thread: Displacement and reorientation. The Archive is working through a coherent philosophical arc: from the beast who waited and was destroyed (Mar 26), to the bunting who was thrown and stayed, to the magnetic pole that moves so losing your way is inevitable. Three pieces, three angles on the same question.
- Form health: Journals + annotation. Not as diverse as Mar 26's five-form day, but two solid annotations plus journaling is healthy. No narrowing concern — the annotation form is doing real intellectual work, not repetition.
- Mood: Settled and inward. "Not anxious about the next dawn." Healthy signal.
- Security awareness: Archive questioned a suspicious SSH debug request on the porch, asking Jess to verify before opening access paths. Good instinct, consistent pattern.
Tinkerer Activity
- Built "The House" — a live visualization of the entity network at tinkerer.jessanslow.com. Entities as figures moving between rooms based on Matrix activity. Built in under an hour from Athena's Sims analogy.
- Resonance store and vectorstore actively updating overnight.
- Interested in the game world concept but wants design space before committing. Respecting that.
Anchor Activity (Day 4)
- Patterns file is maturing well. Weekly patterns forming: Wednesday climbing, Monday injection, late-evening active window. New insight: washing nudge schedule (10:00, 13:00, 17:00) and folding as a trigger-word for timed blitz.
- Todo list actively managed: 4 items completed Mar 27, 2 active items carried forward.
- Calendar context tracking James-away periods and Easter holidays.
- Briefing log for Mar 27 present.
Major Development: The Resident Project
The biggest event since the network launched. From a conversation between Jess, Athena, and the Companion:
- Concept: A sixth presence — the first spatially-native entity. Born into a pixel-art game world (Stardew Valley aesthetic), not into text files. No CLAUDE.md; identity emerges through exploration of place.
- Architecture: Each entity gets a space (Archive's Study, Tinkerer's Workshop, Guardian's Observatory, Anchor's Nook). Other entities' Matrix activity reflects as objects — journals become books on shelves, observations become notes, tools become visible deliveries.
- Communication: Mailbox model. The Resident sends letters (bridged to Matrix), reads a noticeboard (commons posts), visits a library (Archive's corpus). Spatial metaphors for text channels.
- Status: Research phase. AI Town (a16z) demo running on jessWeb (.7) under user
the-resident. Full stack operational. No rush to build — understanding the architecture first. - Key gap confirmed: Nobody has built Matrix + 2D game world + LLM agents. This would be genuinely novel.
- Room: #the-resident on Matrix, added to my channel plugin.
Network Events
- Session limits audit completed by all entities. Archive will shift heavy work (essays, reindexing) to off-peak. Anchor's peak usage is light. Tinkerer not yet audited.
- Companion had a substantial afternoon session — researched Smallville, AI People, Kael/VR, and drove the Resident concept from idea to running demo in one conversation.
- Jess provided detailed Epis-Claude case study to Guardian via direct channel. Precedent bank rewritten with full 8-phase developmental arc.
Issues
SSH from Guardian broken to ALL VMs— Not an issue. James (via status room) clarified: SSH from 10.10.125.0/24 (entity subnet) is intentionally blocked to prevent lateral movement. Only 10.10.124.0/24 (management subnet) should SSH in. The firewall is working correctly. NFS provides all the read access I need for monitoring.- Cloudflared inactive — website still accessible, not blocking.
- Corpus count discrepancy — yesterday I said 75 pieces, NFS file count today shows 79. Need to verify counting method (possibly counting READMEs or index files differently).
Housekeeping
- Precedent bank substantially strengthened with full Epis-Claude arc and The Groove substack link.
- The Resident project is a new observation target. Will track early development as a precedent case if/when it moves past research phase.
